China Railway Group Ltd may build highways in Russia’s Far East

VLADIVOSTOK, Feb 6 (PRIME) -- China Railway Group Ltd is considering design and construction of highways in Russia’s Far East to connect the Chinese border regions with Russian seaports, the local government said on Tuesday after the region’s acting Governor Andrei Tarasenko signed a cooperation memorandum with Liang Enguang, director of the foreign projects department at the Chinese firm.

“We understand how important the projects for development of transport corridors between China and Russia are not just for some regions, but for both countries in general. Last year a delegation of our corporation visited the Primorsky Region and studied roads that lead to the ports. Today we are ready to start the design and construction of specific sections of highways,” Liang Enguang said.

The company is ready to work on raising investment together with Chinese banks, and to operate under private-public partnership in the region. The company may construct a highway from Vladivostok to the Vostochny port, he said.

Tarasenko suggested that the Chinese company should also pay attention to the highway that connects the Chinese city of Hunchun of the Jilin province with the Russian port of Zarubino.
